The Rat Terrier is an American dog breed with a rich and varied background as an all-around farm dog and hunting companion. Traditionally more of a type than a breed, they share much ancestry with the tough little mixed-breed dogs known as feists. Several private associations have maintained Rat Terrier registries for some decades, but more recently there have been movements to obtain breed recognition by the major canine organizations.

I cannot believe the lack of respect for animals! THEY FEEL PAIN AND THEY HAVE EMOTIONS! Obviously this is wrong! I don't know how some of these people? can sleep at night, knowing they are abusing animals so badly.
May 14, 2013 @ 6:17 PM
Wow, you all did a fabulous job...I feel so bad for those poor dogs...but every raid is (hopefully) one less puppy mill...The fact that there are no laws against running puppy mills (ie. abusing dogs their whole lives) is absolutely? appalling. Thank you for being there to rescue them, and for giving them the first love they have ever had.

I like to think of myself as being a responsible breeder…but its greedy, bad people like these that give good breeders a bad name!
May 14, 2013 @ 8:22 PM
That's a great story Toni...Thank you for sharing that with us! I wish more places would take a strong stance like they have in California to put a stop to this careless breeding practice!!! There are responsible breeders who know how to produce high quality and truly care for the dogs…and then there are puppy mills ;(

Hey Toni you should share Pedegru with the breeder of Rhett…I’m sure they would appreciate this topic and hopefully want to share some pictures of the other wonderful dog they’ve bred.

Why can't more advertisements be more positive like this one? Yeah, there is? a dark side but showing animals suffering and in slow motion just make people shut down. There needs to be more of these. I think more people would be more moved to donate and help.

What a powerful and moving video…Thank you Humane Society and volunteers for doing all that you do to help the ones that need it the most!

Whats really sad as well, is law enforcements? hands are tide because as the deputy stated there are no laws against puppy mills. I can imagine how it must have hurt him to not be able to do what he wanted to do.
May 14, 2013 @ 6:12 PM
This is probably the most graphic video I have seen? of a puppy mill. Its disgusting. I want to do something to stop these. Why are they still legal?!?!?!?

North Carolina has an enormous puppy mill problem. Thousands of dogs are suffering, and public opinion overwhelmingly supports a strong law to address the problem—the General Assembly needs to act by passing House Bill 930, legislation that will help alleviate mill dogs’ suffering.
May 14, 2013 @ 4:30 PM
H.B. 930 will deter animal cruelty in commercial breeding facilities by setting mandatory standards of care that all breeders with more than 10 breeding dogs must comply with. A facility that fails to provide this basic care would be in violation of the law and subject to fines of up to $1,000 per violation.
Dogs used for commercial breeding often live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions—without adequate food, water, veterinary care or socialization—as they are forced to bear litter after litter. The puppies produced in these places are sometimes unhealthy and poorly socialized, but at least are fortunate enough to leave the mill at a young age, often to be sold to unsuspecting consumers (who may rack up large veterinary bills). Passage of H.B. 930 is desperately needed to improve inhumane conditions for breeder dogs, who usually spend their entire lives in these facilities.

As you may know, the American Kennel Club (AKC) is based in North Carolina and has always fought efforts to address this type of cruelty. But this bill actually places AKC standards of care into the bill. While these standards are not as strong as we would like, if followed they would improve the lives of these animals and would allow law enforcement to prosecute the owners of substandard facilities.

Hi, Rob...my vote is for the "German Shepherd"!
My girl was not only a great companion but she was also a fantastic watchdog! When we had our horse farm I always knew when something was going on. She would sit at the highest point of the property and oversee the horses in the pastures. She would give out a large and loud bark to let us know if something was not just right.
I truly loved her and she loved me back…I miss my sweet Sans Souci!!!

Hi there...what a fun contest. I already love the choices. Of course you know that mine is the Doberman. Rachael and Sarah - lovely girls who are as feminine and graceful as any girls I know yet as protective and assertive as any man I know too. They are often my very best friends.
